Portuguese Partridge
The Portuguese Partridge Dog originated in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a descendant of the ancient Peninsular Braco, which is a common ancestor of other stop dogs.
The breed has retained its morphology and utilisation criteria, which are similar to those of today.
Its existence has been documented in Portugal since at least the 12th century. In the 14th century it was known as the "podengo de mostra" (show dog), demonstrating its appetite for hunting. It was bred in royal and noble kennels and used in hawk hunting.
Extremely gentle and affectionate, rustic and capable of great endurance and devotion.
Calm and quite sociable, but a little petulant towards his peers. Curious by nature, he works with persistence and vivacity. Very fond of hunting, he always collaborates closely with the hunter.
